The GMAT is complex enough, so I try to keep my rates and policies as simple as possible. Here’s everything you need to know (I think):
Rates & Payment Policies (updated January 20, 2012)
- I currently charge a flat rate of $180/hour for GMAT tutoring and MBA admissions consulting. This applies to both in-person tutoring in NYC, as well as online GMAT tutoring and MBA essay editing.
- Rates may change based on seasonal demand. However, I won’t raise rates on you after you start working with me–if you begin GMAT tutoring when rates are low, then the same rate applies for the duration of your studies… even if the rate goes up for new GMAT students.
- When my schedule allows, I offer discounts for MBA applicants who work full-time in the arts or for non-profit organizations; contact me if you think you might qualify.
- As a general rule, all GMAT tutoring sessions are two hours long. Exceptions can be made only in rare cases.
- Payment is required at each session. Trust me, this avoids all sorts of problems for everybody.
- Sorry, I do not offer volume discounts or “package rates” of any sort. This allows you to maintain your flexibility–very few GMAT students know how much tutoring they’ll need before they get started, and there’s no need to lock yourself into more hours than you’ll ever actually use.
Cancellation Policy
- Here’s where I have to be a little bit mean. I make my living by selling my time in two-hour increments. If you book a certain time and then cancel at the last minute, it really, really sucks for me. If you cancel less than 24 hours before a session (or don’t show up at all), I think it’s reasonable for you to pay me for that time, since you’ve already prevented me from offering that slot to other GMAT students. If you are the victim of an unexpected and terrible act of nature (blizzards, subway fires, etc.), I’ll understand. Otherwise, please be respectful, and either A) show up to your GMAT tutoring appointment, or B) give me plenty of warning if you need to reschedule, or C) pay me if you don’t do either of the above. Fair?
Scheduling & Punctuality
- Please arrive on time.
- Please please please arrive on time.
- If you’re early, you might interrupt another GMAT student, and that isn’t fair. Worse, you might prevent me from eating lunch, and then I’ll be a cranky, crappy GMAT tutor.
- If you’re late, your GMAT tutoring session will still end at the scheduled time… so it’s your loss if you’re late. Sorry, I have to be a little bit mean about this.
