Charles is an independent GMAT tutor based in NYC. His teaching career began accidentally in 1999, when an eavesdropping restaurant patron asked him for Spanish lessons. Charles quickly discovered a love for teaching, and began working as a GMAT, SAT, and GRE instructor for a major test prep firm in 2002. Since 2003, he has tutored independently in San Francisco, Washington D.C., and New York City.
In addition to his efforts as a GMAT tutor, Charles has taught math, economics, Spanish, ESL, writing, and grammar, among other things. In conjunction with his efforts to help students with standardized testing, Charles has also developed a deep understanding of college and MBA admissions processes, and has worked with dozens of students on their essays, interview skills, and resumes. He has helped students gain admission to an impressive range of schools, including undergraduate and graduate programs at Stanford, Harvard, University of Chicago, Berkeley, Wharton, Columbia and Cornell.
Charles is graduated with distinction from Stanford University, and has authored ESL, economics, art history, TOEFL and GMAT curriculum. He re-takes the GMAT on a regular basis, and finally earned an 800 (51Q/51V/6.0 AWA) on his most recent attempt to ace the exam in July 2011. In his spare time, Charles loves to travel, write, exercise, argue about economics, and eat international food.
